Heart-shaped boxes of chocolates can be overrated which is why homemade chocolate oreo truffles have the ability to impress. If you’re looking to put an extra effort this Valentine’s Day, how about trying to make a sweet dessert for someone special. This recipe has simple ingredients that are accessible in any grocery store. Plus, it’s cheap too.

All that is necessary to make the truffles are Oreos, cream cheese, and chocolate chips. The flavor of the Oreo may be subjected to your personal taste; for example, the video portrays red velvet Oreos being used rather than classic. Red velvet Oreos match the theme of Valentine’s Day because of the color. Furthermore, the chocolate can also be made to your own preference. You can melt whichever chocolate you desire, whether its white, dark, milk, etc.  A processor is not necessary. Once the Oreos are separated, the cookies can be placed inside a large Ziploc bag and smashed with a hammer until it is powdery. They can later be blended with the cream cheese in a bowl with a whisk.

Recipe: Chocolate Oreo Truffles

Prep time: 30 minutes

Cook time: 0 minutes

Category: Desert

Method: No bake

Yields: 10 servings

Cost: Around $10

For the chocolate:

  • ¾ cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 tsp of coconut oil (optional)

For the Oreo dough:

  • about ¾ cup of Oreo cookie
  • ½ cup of cream cheese

  1. First, melt ¾ cups of chocolate chips inside the microwave and stir every 5 seconds until it is at a thin consistency. You may add 1 teaspoon of coconut oils to further thin out the chocolate but it works perfectly fine without. (FYI: do not melt in a metal bowl, this is just for aesthetic purposes)
  2. Separate Oreos and cream from cookie. Use about ¾ cup of Oreo cookie.
  3. Into the processor, blend the Oreo cookies until it is powdery. Afterwards, add ½ cup of vegan cream cheese and blend together. The dough should feel sticky and pasty. You may add one cream from a cookie to add extra sweetness.
  4. Mold into truffles and drizzle chocolate. Lastly, leave the truffles inside the freezer for about 20 minutes to reach its potential shape. This desert may be prepared in advance, leave the truffles overnight before the surprise.
